Phyllis B. Hood

Phyllis B. Hood passed on May 27, 2026 at the age of 101 formerly of Freedom, Pa. She was born in Canton, Ohio. She grew up in Brookville, Pa, graduating from Brookville High School in 1942. Phyllis was a Registered Nurse, having trained at Sewickley School Nursing graduating in 1946.

She was married to James D. Hood August 1947 in Brookville Pa and he passed on January 22, 2000. They lived in Freedom, Pa since 1951 in the same home. She and Jim had 3 children. Two sons whom have predeceased before her. Tom and Scott. Her siblings Billie Brossman and Richard Brossman passed ahead of her as well as her parents.

She is survived by her daughter Billie Owens, 1 grandson James, and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by nieces, Beverly and Lindsey, and a nephew Bob. Many Hood relatives survive her as well as many grand nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by a dear friend, Emily Phillips.

Phyllis worked at Sewickley Hospital, and Rochester General until the mid 1980’s when she retired. She kept her nursing license current until 1993. She was a devout member of the Freedom Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday school, being a Deacon, and an Elder. She was active in the Westminster Missionary Group. She enjoyed the Senior and Jr. Women’s Club, she transferred to New Sewickley Presbyterian Church upon the disbanding of the FPC. She enjoyed taking oil painting classes, gardening in the yard. She was an avid reader of the newspaper faithfully keeping up on current events.

There will be a Memorial Service for Phyllis on Monday, July 20th, 2026 at the Huntsman Funeral Home at 502 Adams St. Rochester PA at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Beaver County Office of the Aging.
