Ronald D. “Buckwheat” Caler

Ronald D. “Buckwheat” Caler Jr., 74, of Independence Twp., passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital.  He was born on July 10, 1950 a son of the late Ronald D. & Goldie Caler Sr. He worked numerous construction jobs throughout his life.  He was also a barber and worked for Hertz Rental Car at the airport moving vehicles. Buckwheat was always the life of the party, he always said that he brought the entertainment.  He was truly a great friend.  He loved to camp, ride Harleys and read.  He was devout follower of Holly Matress and St. Pillow Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Lester G. Caler, his niece: Leslie Lee Caler; aunts: Lila Bryson, Olive Kastler, and an uncle Sharp Davidson.

Buckwheat is survived by numerous family members, including a sister-in-law: Lorie Caler, nephew: Lester “Bud” Caler, great nieces and nephews: Caden, Tessa, Charlotte, Lester, and Gunnar, cousins, and so many beloved friends.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 3pm until 6pm in Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Aliquippa. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bags and Blessings 421 Railroad St. Rochester, PA 15074.

  1. Goodbye, old friend! We did have the times of our lives many many times. Hadn’t seen you in a while but I’m sure you were the same old Buckwheat, living and doing exactly what you wanted, exactly how you wanted. Take care my friend, the rest of us are not far behind.
