Betty Jo (Barrett) Morris
Betty Jo (Barrett) Morris, 91, formerly of Hopewell Township and Masonic Villages of Sewickley passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018. She was born in Aliquippa on February 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Robert C. & Mary L. Barrett. A graduate of Westminster College with an Associates degree in Business, Betty was a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron sorority. She was employed by C&L Grocery Store as a bookkeeper and J&L Steel as a secretary before she and her husband became owners and operators of several Baskin-Robbins stores. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian church where she served as a Deaconess; a secretary; the Superintendent of Sunday Schools; and a director of Vacation Bible School. A member of the Center Civic Women’s Club, Betty also served as leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and was a member of two ladies’ social groups formed while a student at Aliquippa High School and lasting well into this century. Betty had a variety of interests that include baking; knitting; sewing; gardening; reading and travel. A wonderful wife, mother, sister and aunt, Betty was dearly loved by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Matthew C. Morris; and three sisters and brothers-in-law: Norma Barrett Propst (Pitt), Florence Barrett Soppelt (Johnny), and Roberta Barrett Propst (Pat).
She is survived by her two children: Scott Morris (Rita Sweet), Altamonte Springs, FL and Lona Garrison (Steven) Atlanta; a sister, Ann Barrett Miller (Ray), Toledo, OH; four grandchildren: Matt & Greg Garrison, and Natalie & Ben Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2~4 & 6~8pm in the Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
