James Keith Kearns
James Keith Kearns, age 65, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 24, 2018, in the Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley. Keith was supported by family, and love though a brief two-week illness.
A lifelong resident of Raccoon Twp., Keith was the son of Thomas Kearns and Evelyn (Ewing) Kearns, also of Raccoon Twp. After graduating from Hopewell High School, Keith graduated from a drafting school in Pittsburgh, before joining the Army in the early 1970’s. He served stateside during the end of the Vietnam War period.
After the service in the Army, Keith started working at the First Energy, Nuclear power plant in Shippingport, where he remained employed up until his death. A quiet man always willing to help family and friends, Keith enjoyed hunting, motorcycles, cars and collecting coins, die cast cars, and other collectables. He also enjoyed numerous family gatherings and placed the welfare of his two sons foremost in his life.
He is survived by his two sons, Devin Kearns of Winter Park, Colo., and Shane Kearns of Aliquippa, and a stepson, Josh McPherson of Hookstown. He is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth Kearns and his wife Lois, of Aliquippa, and Kevin Kearns and his wife Juliette, of Durham, Maine; numerous nieces and nephews, and his aunt, Donna Ewing, of Washington state.
The family would like to thank his friends and First Energy Plant co-workers who have been most supportive throughout this difficult time, and also to the Good Samaritan Hospice unit of Heritage Valley Beaver.
There will be no immediate services, a life memorial will be held in the late spring and interment will be held at Service Creek Cemetery, Raccoon Twp.
