William H. Bryson

William H. Bryson, Sr., 99, of Aliquippa, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Beaver Elder Care with his family by his side. He was born on June 6, 1918, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late John and Mary Peach Bryson. He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1936.  Bill was a US Army Veteran serving during WWII as an amphibious tank operator fighting in the Battle of Saipan and spent time in post-war Japan during General McArthur’s occupation.  He retired after 40 years from J&L Steel working in the Wire Mill.

Bill grew up on a beautiful farm in Hopewell where he and his siblings were raised by his father and beloved Uncle Will after his mother died when he was very young.  We were blessed to hear countless stories of his childhood during the Great Depression.  He loved “the farm” and continued to garden throughout his life, selling vegetables locally.  He was a very kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor and was loved by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Henrietta S. Bryson in 2007; great uncle, Dr. William Bryson; two brothers, Robert (Lila) and Donald (Martha) Bryson; mother-in-law, Anne Blazer; step daughter, Patricia Ann Kalicky; son-in-law, John Spratt; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Lou) Steuer; and nephews, Carl and Richard Bryson, and Wally Steuer.

He is survived by his three children: William H. Bryson, Jr. and fiancé Donna Ketchel, Aliquippa; Robin and Dave Molnar, Hopewell Twp.; John “Jack” and Tracy Bryson, Hopewell Twp.; two adored granddaughters, Jacqueline Ann Spratt (fiancé Jesse Groom) and Kristen Jonelle Spratt; a sister, Joanne McCall; nieces and nephews, Bob (Sue) Bryson, John (Naomi) Bryson, Mary Komar, Donna Bryson, Tammy Ross; and special grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 1pm until 4pm in the Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11am, with Pastor Scott McCabe of Northway Christian Community officiating.

Interment will follow in Veasey Cemetery where the Beaver County Special Unit will conduct Military Honors at noon.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beaver Elder Care, Hunter’s Personal Care, and Mother Teresa Hospice for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mother Teresa Hospice, 3950 Brodhead Road #300, Monaca, PA 15061.
