Richard L. Harkins

Born April 2, 1925 in Bridgewater, PA, Richard Leon Harkins passed away on May 15, 2017 in Providence Care Center. Son of the late Oakley and Bertha (Leighty) Harkins, Dick served in the Army Air Corps. as a B29 Bomber Squadron Assistant Engineer Gunner in WWII. He worked in the Blooming Mill at the Aliquippa works of J&L Steel and operated his own heating and air conditioning business and reconstructed vehicles.

Dick and his wife Betty (Ray) were members of Concord UMC and labored 25 years through several missionary organizations. The Oriental Missionary Society, World Gospel Mission, Missionary World Service & Evangelism (MWS&E)where he served on the board sent them to Kenya, Zaire (Congo), Liberia, Haiti, Colombia, Ecuador, India and the United States (Red Bird Mission, Southwest Indian School, Mission Retirement Home) where all benefitted from the skills, hard work and love.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, a brother Stanley, and three sisters Gloria, Edna & Jane.

His daughters Linda Doutt and Stacy Friel-Mittner, son in law David, grandson Jesse Doutt, great grandsons Sebastian and Matthias Doutt, sons Larry & Terry Harkins, a brother Mel Harkins, sister Ellen Moody, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors will mourn his passing.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 ~ 4 & 6 ~ 8 in the Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. 502 Adams St. Rochester. Mr.Harkins will lie in state in the Concord U.M. Church 285 Concord Church Road, North Sewickley Twp., Beaver Falls on Thursday from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 by Rev. John Phipps. Private interment will be in the church cemetery.
