Martha Marie Wharton

Martha Marie Wharton, 97, formerly of Freedom, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 in Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls.  She was born in Sewickley, PA on February 24, 1928 the daughter of Alvina Porter. When her mother died when Martha was 4, she was then raised by her grandmother Elizabeth Hegner.  Martha worked for many years as a waitress, an apartment complex manager, and a nanny. She volunteered at Passavant Memorial Homes and was a member of the Housing and Development Committee. She was an extremely social person.  She loved to go shopping, out to lunch, reading, and dancing. An amazing mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. Martha was always there to help her family.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 75 years, Robert W. Wharton Sr.; two daughters: Christine Simmons and Dawn Ruckert; three grandchildren, Erica Warshol and Robbie Dukovic and Dean Stauffer; and her brother Arthur Seng.

Surviving are three children and their spouses, Robert W. Wharton Jr & Delores; Susan Markovich & Joseph; and Valerie Ruckert & Harvey; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren and 1 step-grandson.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 2-4 &6 until time of service at 7:30pm in Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Rochester.  

Private interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Freedom.
