Ronald W. Martin

Ronald W. Martin, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on May 4, 2024.  Born on October 18, 1940 to Norman and Mary Martin, he led a life filled with love, service, and dedication.

Ronald was preceded in death by his loving wife and Princess of 56 years, Georgia Martin, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories and unwavering devotion.  Their relationship was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment.

He is survived by his four sons, Ronald W. Martin II , his wife Megan, and their four children Gabrielle, Rebecca, Samara, Sarah and their grandchildren Jason, Every, Lucas and Marcelline.  Brian Andrew Martin, of Coraopolis; George Raymond Martin, his wife Melissa, and their son Grant, of Clover S.C.; Stephen Richard Martin, DO, his wife Shelby of Girard, OH.  Ronald’s siblings Norman Martin, Donald Martin, David Martin, Pamela White, Virginia Burnette, William Martin and Edward Martin.  Preceded in death by his sister Mary Martin and Jonathan Martin.

A devout child of God, Ronald’s faith was unwavering.  His spiritual journey was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and guidance in every aspect of his life journey.

Ronald cherished the time that he spent with his wife Georgia.  They did not have to do anything extravagant as the most important thing was spending time with one another.  They enjoyed taking long rides together and discovering things that they had not seen previously.  They enjoyed parking near the airport and watching the planes come and go.  One of their favorite things to do was to go to Dairy Queen and have Blizzards.

Ronald was a proud veteran, having served his country as an SP4 in the U.S. Army.  Ronald joined the service with his twin brother Donald.  Ronald served at Camp Century, an Arctic scientific research base in Greenland and was part of Project Iceworm.  It was 800 miles from the North Pole.  The camp consisted of 21 tunnels under the ice for a total length of 9,800 feet.  It was powered by one of the first portable nuclear reactors in the world.  The tunnels were 40 feet beneath the surface of the Greenland ice sheet where Ronald along with the other service men lived.  Another little-known fact of his time in the service was that Ronald was an expert marksman.

Ronald took great pride in his service and commitment to the Boy Scouts of America.  Two of his sons, Brian and Ronald, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout under Ronald’s guidance and leadership.  Ronald dedicated his life to scouting and positively influenced the lives of countless young men.  Ronald instilled in them the values of God, leadership, responsibility, and community involvement.

Ronald was an MIS manager for the NCR corporation, where he did computer programming.  Ronald helped to create the first ATM in America.  Ronald was also part of the team that created the first retail UPC/barcode system.

Ronald worked at Cayuga Savings bank in Auburn N.Y. for 11 years as the Director of MIS to build the databases and reporting systems for the bank.  During this time frame Ronald earned a degree from Syracuse University.  Ronald then worked at Fuccillo Hyundai where he earned the sales person of the year award in consecutive years.  In his early years, Ronald had worked for Fuller Brush where he was selected as salesman of the year.

Ronald was an avid fan of golf, baseball, college basketball and football.  One of his favorite players to watch was Bill Mazeroski of the Pirates.  He enjoyed Penn State football, Iowa and Connecticut woman’s basketball and following Phil Mikelson in the PGA.  Ronald was a par golfer in his younger years and loved bowling.

Ronald W. Martin’s legacy of love, service, and faith will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Family and Friends will be received on Monday, May 13^th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Twp. (1522 Coraopolis Hts.  Rd.)  Where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9am.  Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
