Cynthia Lou King
Cynthia Lou King, 59, of Moon Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 15, 2023.
Born May 3, 1963, in Dover, OH, Cyndi was the daughter of William and Mary Lou English. Cyndi was high school sweethearts with her husband, Robert Woodley King, beginning to date in 1979 and getting married in 1987. They had one child, Robert Austin King (wife Taylor King) and two grandchildren, Robert William King and Callan Richard King.
Cyndi graduated from Dover High School in 1981 and attended Akron University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She continued her education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Social Science Administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and became a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Throughout her career, Cyndi always wanted to help the kids who were the worst victims of abuse. Wherever kids were in danger, Cyndi jumped in to save them.
Cyndi’s career began with the Child Abuse Team at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She worked tirelessly providing therapeutic services to children in the worst situations imaginable. After her time in Columbus, she moved to Pittsburgh with her family and began training other therapists on therapeutic techniques for forensic interviewing of victims and offenders. In 1996, she was awarded the Trainer of the Year award by the State of Pennsylvania Child Welfare Competency Based Training Program. Cyndi began testifying as an expert witness in court during this time and testified thousands of times throughout her career in both state and federal court in criminal and civil matters.
She continued her career by accepting a position as the Executive Director of the Jefferson County Children Services Board and during this time, she conducted over 2,500 training sessions for therapists, police officers, caseworkers, probation officers, and teachers. She was later named to the Governor’s Sex Offender Assessment Board which focused on assessments for sexual offenders attempting to be paroled from prison. This is an exclusive appointment reserved for true experts in the field.
In 2007, she opened her own practice, King & Associates, Inc., where she continued her mission of saving the kids. The practice specialized in providing assessment and treatment of trauma issues related to sexual abuse of children. At its peak, King & Associates had 3 locations with 15 full time staff members servicing over 300 active cases at a time. The lasting impact King & Associates had on the welfare of at-risk children is immeasurable.
As always, Cyndi helped the kids in the worst situations. It was an emotionally draining job, but she never stopped fighting the good fight. She was a warrior and the most tenacious person you would ever meet.
Cyndi’s other passion in life was her grandchildren or “her favorite boys.” “Grandma” loved taking her grandchildren to the splashpad, baking cookies, reading books, and coloring pictures. Over the last few months of her life, as she struggled through medical treatments, she was always improved by a visit from her favorite boys.
Cyndi is survived by her devastated high-school sweetheart Rob, her son Austin and daughter-in-law Taylor, parents William and Mary Lou and tons of other relatives. She is further survived by the thousands of children who she saved over her nearly 40-year career. While she may have only had one biological child, she was a mother to every boy and girl she saved through her good deeds.
Friends will be received on Thursday February 23rd from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in The Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Twp. (1522 Coraopolis Hts. Rd.) where a funeral service will be held on Friday February 24th at 10:30 AM.

Oh this is so tragic. I remember Cindy from when we were kids because she only lived a block away from me. Her husband and I were good friends and hung out together when we were younger and went to school together for many years. I can remember when she did work trying to cheer up patients in nursing homes and one of her slogans was it is time for you to recuperate. This world has lost a bright shining light with her passing. Rob I can’t tell you how sorry I am especially after running into you just a few weeks ago and talking this whole thing over. God bless you and may your memories of Cindy provide solace and comfort as time goes on. These things are never easy and I can’t imagine your grief. Love you buddy Steve gintz

I met Cyndi years ago when she taught a forensic interview class I was in. She was so caring and compassionate and made it so easy to take on a tough task. Over the years she was a great support in my own social work career and to the many clients I sent her way. Her willingness to help, offer guidance or teach others also shown through. I am glad to call her my colleague and was so very saddened to hear the world lost a wonderful social worker. My sympathies to all her family and friends. Thank you for sharing this special woman with and all the children she helped along the way!
Knowing Bill and Mary Lou for decades, all of us being members of the Church, we knew that any child of their’s would be a kind, loving, and caring individual. We thank God that he blessed this world with fifty-nine years of Cindy’s determination to leave the lives of so many in a much better condition than they were before she intervened. May God comfort and strengthen each of you who loved Cindy so much. In Christian Love,
