M. Ellen (Nelson) Schweinsberg
M. Ellen (Nelson) Schweinsberg, “Peaches” of New Sewickley Twp., died peacefully on Tuesday June 23, 2020 with her children by her side. She was just shy of her 93rd birthday, and was very proud of her age.
She was born on July 26, 1927 in Beaver Falls, PA the daughter of the late Elmer and Olive (Bonzo) Nelson. Ellen was a graduate of Rochester High School in 1946 where she played the trumpet in both marching and concert band. She regularly attended their class reunions. She attended Geneva College, worked at the Beaver Supermarket and was very active in Girl Scouts where she was a troop leader for many years. She was a 6th degree (Flora) level member in the Big Knob Grange where she was recently honored for her 70 years of membership. As a faithful member of the Oak Grove Lutheran Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Ellen and her family were active in the horse business for many years, where she bred and showed nationally (Ponies of America) ponies. In later years, she and Howard enjoyed racing Thoroughbred horses. As an avid sports fan, Ellen loved her Pittsburgh sports teams and always knew the stats. She was a bowler in a local bowling league. Ellen was a member of the Beaver Falls Ladies tournament team that won a national Turners Tournament title. She took pride in supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their sports endeavors. A proud moment for her was being elected president of the Freedom Football Mothers Association. She enjoyed farming, reading and gifting her family with handmade braided rugs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Howard Lewis Schweinsberg in 2011 and a younger sister.
Ellen leaves behind four children: Susan (John) Wahl; H. Keith (Laurey) Schweinsberg; Cheryl (David) Reader; and Beth (Carl) Cornelius; Eight Grandchildren: Jocelyn Wahl, Deborah (Richard) Carpenter, Sadie and Sam Schweinsberg, Mike (Amanda) Reader, Mark (Jaclyn) Reader, Garret (Kelly) Kemp, Sara (Rex) Stokes, and eleven great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1~5pm as well as Monday from 10am until the time of Funeral Service at 11am in the Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Rochester.
Private interment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
