Robert D. Zahner

Robert D. Zahner, 88, of Hopewell Twp., passed away on Thursday July 6, 2017, in Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver.  He was born on March 3, 1929 the son of the late John and Hilda Zahner.  He was a retired heat and frost insulator working out of Pittsburgh Local #2. He was a Marine Corps Veteran serving during Korea. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn where he served on may boards and was the treasurer over the years.   He enjoyed golfing and sports of all kinds, but he was truly a family man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley J. Zahner in 2006 and his brother Howard Zahner.

He is survived by his three children: Kathryn (Thomas) Goetz, Altoona; John (Patricia) Zahner, Hopewell Twp.; and Nancy (Kevin) Bitts, Hopewell Twp.; 6 grandchildren: Leah ( fiancé Jameson Kummer) Zahner; Robert (Alexandria) Zahner; Kristen and Matthew Goetz; Kevin (fiancé Michelle Bertges) Bitts and Alex Bitts; and two great grandchildren: Dylan and Cora Bitts. He is also survived by his special Christian friend Irene Painter.

Friends will be received on Sunday from noon until 4pm in the Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Aliquippa where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11AM. The members of the Beaver County Special Unit will then conduct Military Honors at 11:45am.
