Irma Belle (Lewis) Double
Irma Belle (Lewis) Double of Sewickley PA, formerly of Aliquippa, PA., died on May 25, 2016. Irma was born in New Wynn, PA., on March 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry A. Lewis and Ethel Belle (Cooley) Lewis. A 1947 graduate of Indiana State Teacher’s College with a B.S. in elementary education, Irma was first employed by the New Brighton School District where she taught for two years. She moved to Aliquippa in 1949 and taught at Jones School for two years after which time she moved to the New Sheffield School, where she taught Kindergarten for 32 years. She loved children as evidence by her lesson plans, classroom decorations and her piano skills. Her students were active participants in the classroom as she played daily a variety of music for in-class skipping, hoping and jumping movements. Irma and her late husband, Russell, were both gifted vocally. They sang duets at many weddings from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Irma and Russell were both long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Aliquippa, where they were members of the adult choir. Irma also played the piano and sang occasional solos. She also was a Deaconess at the Church. Irma was a long-time resident of Center Township before moving to the Masonic Village in Sewickley in 2003. Irma is survived by her children, Mark (Melinda) Double, of Morgantown, WV and Beth (John) Antonucci of Freedom; granddaughters, Erin (Jeff) Hamilton, of Fairmont, WV., Sara Double of Morgantown, WV., Lucia Nicole (Andrew) Byer of Briston, VA., and Brittany Antonucci, of Abington, VA., and great-grandson, Jake Byer, of Briston, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband Russell (1992), parents, Harry (1981) and Ethel (1960) and half-brother, William Goldsboro (1972). Visitation will be on Friday, from 10am until time of service at 1pm in the First Baptist Church, 2107 McMinn St., Aliquippa 15001, followed by interment in Lafayette Memorial Park, Uniontown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the church.
