Andrew J. Span

Andrew J. Span, 92, of Moon Twp. died on Friday, September 28, 2018 in Concordia of Franklin Park.  He was born in Ambridge on August 12, 1926 the son of the late Andrew & Mary (Pinkovsky) Span.

Andrew served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. While he claimed he “never did anything”, he was selected among the Army’s finest to train with the Army Signal Corps.  After the war, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.  He retired from EPIC Metals in Rankin.  Andrew enjoyed many wonderful years with Marge, his loving wife of 65 years. The two enjoyed attending Robert Morris University football games, gambling on the thoroughbred races at Ladbroke’s, and attending the 55+ events at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Moon, where they were long-time members.

He is survived by his wife Margaret M. (Sudia) Span.  Eight children:  Sandra McCormick (Rusty), NC; Andy Span, CA; Judy Shaffer (Jeff), Robinson; Linda Norman (Robert), Moon; Jim Span, CA; Mary Phoenik, Mars; Christine Ree (Robert), Moon; Teri Vidovich (Scott), Moon; a brother, Capt. William F. Span USN (Ret.). Thirteen grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren will miss him as well.

In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Span.

There will be no public viewing.  Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 6 at 9:30 AM in St. Margaret Mary Parish, Moon.  Committal and military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon.
