Edward Bires

Edward Bires, 94, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 21, 2018.  He was born in Rankin, PA on May 16, 1924 the son of the late Andrew Sr & Anna (Tinnick) Bires.

Beloved husband and best friend for over 66 years of Geraldine (Pavlik) Bires.  Devoted father of:  Dr. Jill Bires, Atlanta, Janet Boslett (Bill), Chicago, Beth Bires-Henry (Stephen), Moon Twp.  Ed will be missed by his brother-in-law Ronald Pavlik (Jeanne), many nieces, nephews and granddogs.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers and a sister.

Ed was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army.  He continued the love of his country by starting a career with the US Postal Service in 1946 where he worked for 35 years and retired as the Postmaster in Braddock, PA in 1981.  With his passion for education, in addition to working full time, Ed received his bachelor’s degree from Point Park University.

His retirement years were spent serving as the director of the Salvation Army Golden Age Club in Braddock, PA where he enjoyed planning trips and programs.

Armed with wit and a joke of the day, Ed was always able to make you laugh and smile. His kindness and compassion were shared with many.

A special thanks to Vanadium Woods Village for providing Ed and Gerri with “a place to call home” for the past ten years.  Thanks to Angels for the Elderly for their care, compassion and friendship.

Friends will be received on Friday August 24, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Twp.  (1522 Coraopolis Hts. Rd)  where a prayer service will take place on Saturday at 9 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 AM in St. Margaret Mary Parish, Moon Twp.  Committal and military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Twp.
