Thomas John Mahler

Thomas John Mahler, 94, of Crescent, formerly of Danville, NJ, died on October 5, 2016 in the Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford. Tom was born on November 19, 1921 in New York, NY the son of the late Paul & Lolita Mahler. Tom graduated from Townsend Harris High in 1938 and from City College in 1942 where he earned a B.Ch.E. He served in the US Army from 1942-46. He married Mary Jane in 1946 whom he met while they were both in the Army. Tom started working at Picatinny Arsenal in NJ as a chemical engineer working on high explosives. In 1956 he joined the Ordnance/Special Weapons Ammunition Command at the Arsenal as an Item Manager. In 1963 he returned to Picatinny to head the Special Items Division for the newly formed Commodity Management Office. He managed the 152mm ammunition for the Sheridan Weapon System. In 1976 he became deputy to the Assistant Project Manager for the Tank Main Armament and worked on the 105mm & 120mm systems for the Abrams Tanks. In 1987 he retired as Deputy Project Manager. In addition to his parents Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Eaton) Mahler and a sister Alice Mahler. Tom is survived by cousins: Helen Flaherty, Bridgeville; Carol Egenlauf, Leetsdale; Dian Shandick, Crescent; Leslie Fersch, Wesley Chapel, FL & Dawn Sorrentino, Pembroke Pines, FL. At his request all services are private. The Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Township is in charge of arrangements. Private interment at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY will take place at a later date.
