Robert Eli Irons celebrated his home going on Saturday, December 2, 2017, surrounded by family at his home in Hookstown, PA. He was 87 years old. He was a beloved family man, dedicated to his children, his church and his country. He was much loved for his sense of humor and his witty retorts. He loved writing, storytelling, politics, local history, gardening, Haflinger horses and Airedales. He enjoyed providing anonymous gifts to others and generously gave of his time and money.
An avid writer, Robert published his first poem, Walk with Me in 1995. He went on to write hundreds of poems, sayings and short stories.
Robert was born on July 11, 1930, the youngest of eight children born to Earl and Jeanette (McIntyre) Irons of Monaca, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene (Winkle) Irons, his grandson, David Snow, and his seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his four children: Melissa Ruttan, Elvin (Alice) Irons and Harold Irons (all at home), and Donna (Lee) Irons-Zimmerman of Greencastle, PA; six grandchildren: Diana Snow, Wilmington, NC; Autumn (Bill) James, Moundsville, WV; Ashlee Irons, Conway;  Justin and Joshua Irons;  both of Ohioville; and Yasleena, Zimmerman, Greencastle, PA;  and, three great-grandchildren: Adlee and Brylee James and Brandon Brown.
Robert was a member of Service United Presbyterian Church, Laborers Local 833, South Side Senior Citizens and the Republican Party. He began working as a teenager drilling wells throughout Beaver County. He retired from Bruce Mansfield in 1980 after years employed with Arco Chemical in Monaca. He dedicated many volunteer hours as a board member for the John T. Anderson Cemetery where three large crosses stand that he had built for is beloved church.
The family would like to personally acknowledge and give thanks to Donna Edmonds and Crystal Brandon for their years of love and care. Their service and dedication is greatly appreciated.
Friends and family will be received Monday and Tuesday from 2~4 & 6~8pm in Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2345 Mill Street,  Robert will be laid to rest on Wednesday at 11AM at Service United Presbyterian Church with services conducted by Pastor Tom Knowles of Christian House Baptist Chapel.
